Childhood Pet Stories: Diabolical Bunny

On the side of our house growing up, there was a small fenced-in yard that we referred to as "the Bunny Yard." There were 5? hutches for our various rabbits, mostly under the care of my older brother, Doug. One of the rabbits was a small brown male that we creatively named "Brownie."

Brownie was not your average rabbit. He didn't just happily sit in his hutch watching the world go by like the other rabbits. He wanted adventure! He was sly and tricksy.

Somehow, Brownie was able to get out of his cage. Now he wasn't confined to a small 6 foot square box; he was free to run around the whole yard! And boy was he proud of it.

Brownie became King of the Bunny Yard. We had to feed the rabbits of course, but Brownie did not want anyone coming into his newly-conquered space. Always thought rabbits were timid and skittish? Not this one. If anyone were to go into the Bunny Yard, Brownie the evil little fuzzball would immediately CHASE you down and nip at your ankles!

It was bizarre. Perhaps Brownie gave courage to the others that were still trapped. I bet they lived vicariously through him.

He was probably rabid.
